Prepping for going to see Lydia Lunch’s Big Sexy Noise on Friday at the Fleece by re-watching Céline Danhier’s awesome documentary about No Wave & the Cinema of Transgression, Blank City. It features not only ms lunch but also richard kern, steve buscemi, debbie harry, brian eno, james chance, thurston moore, jim jimminy thirlwell & jim jimminy jarmusch etc etc etc.

Needless to say any film with both death valley 69 & TJ&TJ’s orphans on the soundtrack’s is always gonna be fucking awesome but this would be fucking awesome even w/out them - a fascinating historical document of an incredibly creative time.

If you’ve never watched it & have any sort of interest in punk or more pertinently noise rock grab a copy from somewhere.

Amazing and unheralded post-punk single from 1979, with some brash female-vox DIY punk tracks in the same vein as Essential Logic, X-Ray Spex, Kleenex, early Slits, Androids Of Mu… check out the insane WASP synth at the end of “The Follower” (Jim Thirwell aka Clint Ruin aka Foetus played WASP in pragVEC on the LP but it appears Susan Gogan is playing it here.)

Scraping Foetus off the Wheel — I’ll Meet You In Poland, Baby

I met Lydia in London in 1982, introduced by Mick Harvey. I had all the records already. She lived in an apartment in Baron’s Court with Murray. We met and made plans, wrote and regaled. We were thick as thieves, lusty as pirates. The Queen of Siam with ice-blue eyes, red-black heart, white-knuckled rides, broken arts and broken limbs. An enigma of poetry, pain, and pleasure. Take no prisoners, fuck ‘em all. Save the wails.
– Jim Thirlwell, on Lydia Lunch (from the book Ripped: T-Shirts From The Underground)

I’ve seen the nations rise and fall
I’ve heard their stories, heard them all
but love’s the only engine of survival
Your servant here, he has been told
to say it clear, to say it cold:
It’s over, it ain’t going
any further
And now the wheels of heaven stop
you feel the devil’s riding crop
Get ready for the future:
it is murder #divinecanvas
